Our topic today is going to be anxiety and how to stop worrying. Are you a worrier? Are you someone that tends to think, “I’m so worried about my future.” A lot of people are, but I believe you know that worrying about work all the time or about any other matter is pretty useless. It’s like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it never goes anywhere. How do you train yourself to worry less without spending a lot of money on health anxiety self-help? Here’s my trick for you.
How to Stop Worrying in 5 Steps
In this article:
- 1. List Down Your Worries
- 2. Arrange your Worries According to Importance
- 3. Keep your Worries Away for 6 Months
- 4. Check How Many of Your Worries Came to Life
- 5. Repeat the Process
1. List Down Your Worries
Let’s first start with this statistic: 60 to 65% of all the things on your list of worries will never happen. Amazing, huh? I want you to sit down tonight, pull out a piece of paper, and put your top 10 worries down. List them.
2. Arrange Your Worries According to Importance
Then, I want you to go through and number your worries as best you can so that they’re in order. Read them over; make sure they are what you think they are.
3. Keep Your Worries Away for 6 Months
Then, I want you to fold that piece of paper up, put it in a drawer, and set a reminder on your smartphone for six months from now.
4. Check How Many of Your Worries Came to Life
Six months from now, I want you to pull that piece of paper out, look at it, and in your mind, I want you to think about how many of those worries came true. Very unexpected.
Note: Of the ones that did happen, you’ll see a lot of them are: A) things that didn’t turn out as bad as you thought they were going to; or, B) things you could never have impacted for the better anyway, leaving a very small a number of things that actually went wrong.
5. Repeat the Process
Repeat the exercise. In fact, it’s an exercise you can do for your entire life. What’s that going to do? It’s going to train your subconscious that worry is useless because you won’t just say it, but you’ll actually see how fruitless it is to stress over more than half the things that would make it on your list.
