The Importance of a Handwritten Note
Why is this important? Very simple: if you have great grades, if you have great test scores, if you end up going to a great college — all of that makes you just one of many. And, you know what? There is a heck of a lot of smart people out there, and many will have achieved as much or more than you. On the other hand, being the person who writes a handwritten letter separates you from the flock.
The People You Can Send Handwritten Letters To
To whom do you write a handwritten note? They could be any individual you think can help you in the future. You could talk about something nice the teacher does or a good lesson that one of your teachers tells you about, which you think is important. It could be about anything with anyone that you feel adds value to your life or could add value to your life.
Tips for Writing a Handwritten Note:
- Get their address and make sure you have thank-you cards. They don’t have to be fancy. If you don’t have the money, they don’t even have to be personalized — you can get them anywhere really or hand make your own.
- You write out a note saying, “You know, it was so nice to meet you. I really appreciated the thoughts that you had and the kind words” or “I really appreciate you sharing this website with me or this article” or whatever the case may be. You then put it in the mail and send it to them.
The Impact It Leaves to People
The result is they will be very impressed because it doesn’t happen very often. Beyond that, they’re also going to remember you and that is the whole objective.
When you pick up the phone or get in touch with them in any way, you want them to go, “Oh yeah, I remember her. She’s the one that sent me that beautiful Thank You note.” Boom, that puts you one step above everybody else. That’s where you need to be — you need to have that slight edge, that slight advantage at all times because that gets you over the finish line. Is this all making sense? It’s not a difficult concept but it is critical to your future and it’s one you can use for your entire life.
Check out how some people responded to the handwritten letters they received by watching this video from Stanford Graduate School of Business’ channel:
That’s it for today! Get some Thank You notes and some nice stamps, and do it. By the way, if you have terrible handwriting, just print the note out using block letters. It won’t matter as long as the intention is pure. Remember, it’s the thought that counts!
