I’ve really been focusing the last week on Dr. Bedor’s lessons to you about college search. Her guidance is just, I’m sure you can agree, invaluable. I wish I’d had these videos and this information available when I was looking for the best college for me because it just would have made my life so incredibly easier as I’m sure you can agree. I’ve posted all of Deborah’s lessons below here, by the way, so you can go back and look at all of that college information, because if you haven’t, they’re just fantastic, they really are. They’re so informative about things you may not have even considered.
College Search: Find a College That Fits You in 3 Ways
In this article:
One of the factors I wanted to make sure you look at is getting your gap year right. If you’re considering taking some time off of school when you finish high school, it’s really, really important to think through your whole plan. It’s not just for the year but for the next 18 months, 2 years, and so on. You also really have to consider how you’re going to find colleges that match you, how you’re going to deal with coming home and filling in your application, and everything like that. So, absolutely watch that because people get their gap years wrong, and you must get your gap year right if that’s something that you want to do.
Rescue a Deferral
Two, rescue a deferral. Now, some people may think that if their entrance is deferred, then that’s the end of the world, and they’re not going to that school. That’s inaccurate, and you should really see a deferral as an opportunity to lobby your first school of choice or your dream school. And, I think so many people get so disheartened by the fact that they’re deferred that they don’t see that. So that’s a really, really key thing to know and also how to go about in the right way is really important. Make sure you watch that.
And then also Deborah’s most recent lesson, merit scholarships. We get so many questions from you guys about merit scholarships, and I really want you to watch that, think about it, and do your research on your top schools because there’s so much opportunity there for you. That is just such a secret if you don’t know that those are available.
If you’re still wondering where to start your college search, then watch the video below from College Raptor’s channel to help you:
So, getting your gap year right, rescue a deferral, and merit scholarships, if you haven’t already seen those in your college search, please do. And, by the way, the Campus Visit series, if you don’t know what you’re looking for when you’re going to a college campus, if you think, “Oh, we’re just going to see it,” make sure you watch those, I think it’s five videos, because, wow, that will really, really, really make sure that you’re asking the right questions and looking for the right things when you’re visiting a campus in your college search.
