Today, I want to tell you a practical advice you need to hear: do not worry about your future. More often than not, young people like you spend time contemplating their future. And sometimes, the more you ponder on the matter, the more you worry which leads to anxiety. But even with all the technology we have, no one knows what the future holds. Let me share with you why you should let go of your worries over an unknowable future.
Do Not Worry | Why You Should Not Be Anxious Over Your Future
Your Future Job May Not Even Exist Yet
I want to share with you an amazing truth. It’s going to blow your mind and it’s important to remember as you contemplate your future. There is a good chance that some of the jobs you’re going to have in your life have not yet been invented. Now, let’s take a moment and contemplate what that means. For all recorded history, that has never happened before.
Imagine asking your parents to tell you what your future is going to be like. If it was 50 years ago, they’d tell you, “Oh, wonderful things are going to happen. This may get better. That may evolve. There may be new inventions here or there.”
But what if they tell you this instead? “I have no idea what your future is going to be like. That’s because your job probably hasn’t been invented yet.” That’s a staggering statement, and yet it’s true.
Your area of interest may be very specific. For instance, you want to be a scientist studying gravitational waves. Or you want to be a technologist. Even then, you may find those jobs to not be the same or even unrecognizable over the years. One example is medicine — it evolves along with technology so change is continuous.
Do Not Worry About Tomorrow
You know that I’m here to give you practical advice, so I want to share with you truths that can make a big difference in your life and give you the edge. Here’s my practical advice when it comes to the changing world: do not worry about it.
What you need to do is to figure out what you love doing and what you’re really good at. Once you know what they are, you should pursue them. If those — rather than a specific title or goal — become your focus, then your success is almost assured. That’s because you’ll develop a transferable set of skills. This is better than having skills that are applicable to only one or two things. Makes sense?
The other thing that’s important to have is self-confidence. This is essential in light of an unknowable future. When you think about it, an unknowable future means a lot of change. And a lot of change can result to worry. Let’s be honest — we don’t like change as it could cause danger, right?
You need to overcome that, because who wants to worry? It’s a waste of time. To avoid anxious thoughts, you have to maintain confidence.
Maintain a Good Amount of Confidence
So keep in mind what I always say: life, my friend, is a confidence game. If you’re bright but you’re not confident or if you’re not as bright as some people, then your future is severely limited. But if you’re filled with passion and confidence, then you’re still going to win the day.
Always remember to maintain and increase your confidence. Focus on the things that you love to do, and those that you’re good at. All these will prepare you, and they’ll put you in a great position to be happy and successful no matter what the future brings. And someday, you may actually create something that hasn’t been invented yet.
Are you prone to feel overwhelmed with anxiety and fear over the future? Here’s a breakdown of the ways how you can overcome them, as told by Shaina Leis:
Having a “do not worry about the future” mantra may seem hard to follow through. But, no amount of worrying can give you success in whatever you choose to do in the future. The thoughts that you allow to fill your mind have power over your words and actions. So, it’s important to concentrate on thoughts and activities that will benefit you in the long run. Instead of worrying, choose to develop your skills and increase your self-confidence!
